The Venango Museum of Art, Science and Industry is a multifaceted museum situated in Oil City, Pennsylvania that aims to preserve and promote the history, art, science, and industry of the Venango County region. Occupying a historic 4-story brick building in downtown Oil City's National District, the museum opened its doors in 1981 and has been educating visitors about the area's unique history ever since.

The museum boasts three floors of interactive exhibits and displays that chronicle the regional history from prehistoric times to the oil and lumber industries that drove the area economy in the 19th and 20th centuries. On entering the museum, visitors are greeted by an imposing Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton cast that gives a taste of the prehistoric exhibits on the 4th floor. The 3rd floor highlights Native American artifacts and archaeological finds from ancient indigenous settlements along the Allegheny River.

The 2nd floor contains exhibits profiling the early frontier settlements and the beginnings of the oil industry in the 1860s when Oil City became the hub for oil transport on the Allegheny River. Authentic artifacts from the oil boom include steam engines, drilling equipment, and images of the sprawling boomtown Oil City became in the late 19th century. Here visitors can learn how the abundance of oil transformed the landscape and economy.

The 1st floor contains the art and industry exhibits, showcasing how lumber barons and successful oil industrialists helped cultivate a thriving arts culture in Oil City during its flush years. The art gallery displays paintings from the Venango Museum's permanent collection including landscape paintings of the region. A rolling exhibit calendar also brings new art to the museum through loans and partnerships with contemporary artists.

Other highlights of the museum include the interactive oil derrick simulation where visitors can drill for black gold themselves. In the technology gallery, a steam locomotive engine, printing press machines, and other artifacts allow visitors to explore Venango County's industries and innovations. The museum also houses a research library containing local historical documents, maps, newspapers, and genealogical archives.

The Venango Museum provides an educational and entertaining experience for visitors of all ages. Through interactive exhibits and authentic artifacts, the museum captures the essence of regional history from its prehistoric roots through the oil boom era into the present day. With its diverse galleries and wealth of information, the Venango Museum is an essential destination for experiencing the art, science, industry, and culture of northwestern Pennsylvania.
