Nestled in the heart of downtown Davis, the Hattie Weber Museum of Davis offers visitors a glimpse into the rich history and cultural heritage of Davis, California. Housed in a restored craftsman bungalow originally built in 1917, the museum opened in 1973 as a tribute to longtime Davis resident and community leader Hattie Weber. Through its exhibits, programs, and historic archives, the museum captures the growth and evolution of Davis from its early beginnings to the vibrant college town it is today.

Upon entering the historic home, guests are transported back in time to the early 20th century. The front rooms contain permanent exhibits showcasing what a typical Davis home looked like in the 1910s and 20s. Authentic artifacts and period furnishings fill the space, including a Victorian fainting couch, Singer sewing machine, and other everyday items. In the dining room, the table is set with fine china and lace tablecloths, depicting an elegant dinner party from the era.

Moving through the home, exhibits profile early Davis businesses, organizations, agriculture, and family life using photographs, documents, and cultural objects. Here you can view an original horse-drawn buggy from Davis Livery Stable or agricultural tools showing innovations in farming. Of particular interest is the exhibit detailing the pivotal role UC Davis played in the town’s development.

The museum also offers rotating exhibits focused on various aspects of Davis history. Previous exhibits have covered Japanese American heritage, theblink railway history including the old SP Depot, and Davis' musical culture. A current exhibit dives into the lives of Davis’ namesakes, early pioneers Jerome C. and Mary A. Davis.

In the backyard, guests can explore the Heritage Rose Garden containing over 140 antique and old garden roses introduced prior to 1940. Interpretive panels share the story behind each rose variety. The Picnic Day exhibit highlights the experience of UC Davis’ annual open house festival, a treasured Davis tradition since 1909.
